The cabinet-level foreign affairs agency of the U.S. government is the united states Dep't of state, also called as the state department. This agency is the same as to foreign ministries in other countries and it is the secretary who controls it. It is located in the Harry S. Truman Building, a few blocks away from the white house in the bottom neighborhood of Washington D.C.
The Executive Branch & the U.S. Congress have constitutional roles for U.S. foreign policy. The Dep't of state is the lead U.S. foreign affairs agency and the secretary of state is the president's principal foreign policy advisor. The department elevates U.S. objectives and interests in the world through its primary role in enlarging and executing the president's foreign policy. It also supports the foreign affairs activities of other U.S. Gov't entities including the U.S. department of commerce & the U.S. agency for international development.
The department of state conducts activities with a civilian workforce. The U.S maintains judicious relations with about 180 countries and also maintains relations with many international organizations. In able to carry more responsibilities, dep't of state works in close coordination with other federal agencies.
The U.S. secretary of state is the chief executive officer of the department and assigned to organize & supervise the entire department and its staff. The staff has its own function that was tasked for them to do. The U.S. Deputy secretary of state supports the secretary in the over-all administration of the department. The undersecretary for the management is the principal adviser to the secretary and deputy secretary on matters pertaining to department's financial aspects. The undersecretary for economic, business, and agriculture affairs is the senior economic advisor on international economic policy. The undersecretary for public Diplomacy and Public affairs leads functions that were formerly assigned to the U.S. information agency; manages units that handle the department's public communications. The undersecretary for arms control and international security affairs coordinates the department's role in U.S. military assistance. The office that is responsible to manage diplomatic efforts on emerging worldwide issues.
